>>250 EAST MAIN
Worst To First
In every practical sense, the
Eastern Regional 250 SX title
was all wrapped after last week's
race in New Jersey. All three of
the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit
Kawasaki Team riders were in
contention early in the schedule
and two of them led the stand-
ings at one point or another.
But all three were forced to skip
Las Vegas due to injuries. First,
Adam Cianciarulo went down in
Toronto, dislocating his shoulder
and handing his teammate Mar-
tin Davalos the points lead. Then
Davalos crashed and broke his
ankle the week leading up to the
New Jersey race. Finally, Blake
Baggett was hit in the eye with
a rock while practicing and has
been dealing with vision prob-
lems ever since. All this left new
points leader Justin Bogle with a
much easier drive down the road
to the title.
Bogle went into the New Jer-
sey race eight points behind
Davalos but left with a 17-point
lead in the standings, and with
Davalos, Cianciarulo and Baggett
all sidelined, no one could really
touch Bogle. No other rider on
the Vegas track had a mathemati-
cal chance of catching Bogle,
so Bogle had actually clinched
the title before the gate even
dropped for the 250 East final.
With nothing to lose, Bogle
grabbed the holeshot and took
the early lead, which he held for
five laps. All the while, Jeremy
Martin had a bead on the Honda
rider and moved in close enough
to sniff Bogle's exhaust. Then
when Bogle made a mistake,
Martin pounced, taking the lead
on lap five.
After a few more laps Martin
had established a relatively safe
