MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 17 APRIL 29, 2014 P37
Briefly...
After finishing a close second to Trey
Canard in his heat race, Yoshimura
Suzuki's James Stewart, the only
rider left who still had a mathemati-
cal chance of winning the 2014 SX
Championship going into the New
Jersey race, was running fifth on the
third lap of the main when his bike
momentarily slipped out, causing
him to stick out his leg. It appeared
that he twisted the knee and imme-
diately pulled off the track and rode
back to the pits. The team was tight-
lipped about Stewart's condition.
For the past few weeks, there have
been many rumors floating around
about Monster Energy Kawasaki's
Ryan Villopoto possibly sitting out
the outdoor AMA Motocross Nation-
al Championship Series in order to
take care of some nagging injuries.
Before the racing began at MetLife
Stadium, Villopoto's team would not
confirm or deny that he's going to sit
out the outdoors, but did say that he
is considering not racing. However,
after clinching his fourth straight Su-
percross title at the end of the night,
Villopoto was asked what his inten-
tions are for the summer, and he
said, "I am riding the Nationals this
year," said Villopoto. "At this point in
time, yes, I am riding the Nationals."
En route to winning the champion-
ship, Ryan Villopoto also won the
inaugural Toyota Triple Challenge
and was awarded a new Toyota Tun-
dra for his efforts. The Toyota Triple
Challenge included Anaheim III, Ar-
lington, Texas and culminated in East
Rutherford. Had he won all three
races, he would have won a quarter
of a million dollars.

and the 40th of his career.
The win put a happy face on
an up-and-down season for
Villopoto that started with a
fourth-place finish and a fifth-
place finish in two of the first
three rounds. In contrast,
Villopoto is currently riding a
three-race win streak with one
race remaining on the sched-
ule!
"It definitely feels good to fi-
nally put this away, it's been a
long season and it's been a lit-
tle bit up and down, so at this
point I'm glad it's over," said
Villopoto. "It's definitely big,
to be in the record books with
just one other person, and
with a guy like Jeremy Mc-
Grath. It's pretty cool. I think
he's definitely one of the cool-

the most rewarding.
