MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 17 APRIL 29, 2014 P49
rider left MetLife Stadium with
a 17-point lead with only the Las
Vegas round to go, and with the
next three riders in the standings
all sidelined with injuries, Bogle
seems assured of extending the
GEICO Honda team's streak of
championships to five straight
years.
"I'm pumped, it was a hard race
to win, a lot harder than Toronto,
for sure," said Bogle, comparing
the race with his only other win of
the season. "I had a good battle
with my teammate [Matt Bisceg-
lia] and luckily we both stayed up.
I just went out there and made it
happen and I'm pleased. It was
tough and you had to be patient.
It was raining during the main and
the track was greasy in a lot of
spots and the one thing I wanted
to avoid was going down early, so
I was a little careful. Once we got
rolling I just fell into a rhythm and
kind of checked out. There were
a few moments when things got
gnarly, but I kept my focus and
rode it out."
Bogle has consistently im-
proved through out the 2014 sea-
son ever since he started mak-
ing waves at the series opener
in Texas when he charged from
nearly last to finish fifth in the
main. After that, in seven races,
Bogle has been off the podium
just once.
"I'm so happy to be in this po-
sition," said Bogle. "We've got
one more race next weekend in
Vegas and I want to do the same
thing I did here. One of my team
guys reminded me to enjoy my-
self today and I really kind of took
that attitude."
CAREER BESTS
Jeremy Martin finished a career
best second behind Bogle, the
Star Racing Yamaha rider passing
Vince Friese on lap five and Matt
Bisceglia on lap eight to do so.
It's been an up and down year
for the rider from Minnesota who
failed to qualify for the first two
rounds of the season.
"I got about a midpack start
and worked my way through the
field and it started raining pretty
hard," said Martin. "This feels
really good. I was at rock bottom
at the start of the season, but to
turn it around and to come out
of here with a second is good.
Honestly, I just needed a bit of
a break to work on a few things,
and I was able to get the bike
working better and mentally got
in the right place."
Also coming away with a
personal-best finish was Vince
Friese who finished third on
the Factory Metal Works Team
Honda.
"I got a good start, and I made
a few mistakes at the start of the
race and let a few guys around
me, but I stayed upright and
I think that was the key for to-
night, the track was gnarly," said
Friese. "I knew guys were going
to go down and I just tried to ride
solid and I ended up right where
I needed to be."
FIRST TO FOURTH
Bisceglia led three laps of the
race after passing Jimmy Deco-
tis on lap four. Unfortunately, the
GEICO Honda rider stalled his
bike on lap eight and fell back to
fourth.
"I'm really upset with myself,"
Bisceglia said. "I felt great out
there and I was really riding well.
My mechanic said the timing
Trey Canard won
an exciting heat
race over Stewart.
