AMA/SRT HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 15 APRIL 15, 2014 P111
Briefly...
Second to cross the finish line, Ivan
Ramirez was informed almost im-
mediately that he would likely be
protested for taking an alternate
line meant for ATVs. Whether due
to not reading the rider instruc-
tions thoroughly or not immediately
understanding the sign - Ramirez
speaks English well, but it still is his
second language - the three riders
he was battling with at the time said
they saw him ride the alternate. The
rider instructions stated, "There are
three alternate routes on [the first]
loop. The first two alternates are for
Quads only and are located at ap-
proximately 14 and 22 miles respec-
tively." The section ends: "Don't get
DQed for cheating; ride the appro-
priate route." Before being officially
informed of his fate, Ramirez said,
"It's going to be a long season so I'm
enjoying and having fun [with it], for
sure." As Burson pointed out, "There
was the quad alternate and Ivan went
straight [down it]. Jake started to go
straight and turned around and went
right in front of us. Actually, Ricky
passed him. We were all battling then
I passed both of them coming down
this next rocky hill. By then Ivan [had
come]; he was probably another 30
seconds ahead at that point because
we went right, went up rocky stuff,
down rocky stuff into a check and
[Ramirez] had already hit the check
and was gone. So I said something
to them."
Though the day didn't end so well
for Ivan Ramirez, things went a lot
better for his cousin, Brandon Pri-
eto, who continues to improve after
sitting out most of last year recov-
ering from a broken leg suffered at
the opening round. Prieto finished a
