OFF ROAD 2014 AMSOIL GRAND NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY SERIES, PRESENTED BY MAXXIS ROUND 4/APRIL 13, 2014 UNION, SOUTH CAROLINA P102 "It seems like I keep making the little mistakes," Mullins said. "I clipped a lapper and ended up hitting a tree and hitting my hand pretty good. At that point I was trying as hard as I could but I couldn't make up any time." Mullins may be down after two consecutive runner-up-finishes but the round-one winner is cer- tainly not out. Mullins sits only two points behind Russell in the championship standings with nine rounds remaining. After the race Mullins seemed disappoint- ed, stating, "I felt like I rode a lot better than I did at Steele Creek but there's still something I'm searching for and I need to figure it out." Mullins also commented that he finally has a much-needed weekend off, which is hard to come by as he's also competing in - and leading - the National En- duro Series on the off-weekends of GNCC. But for Russell, he'll continue to fine-tune his skills without put- ting too much pressure on him- self during the week. For the first time this season Russell will wear the coveted white number plate background to indicate that he's the points leader heading into round five. Behind the KTM duo, Rocky Mountain ATV-MC/N-Fab AmPro Yamaha's Josh Strang has been a consistent podium contender in the first four rounds. Strang captured another third-place fin- ish at Sunday's Big Buck GNCC, despite a setback of his own off the start. "My bike didn't fire off the line, so I was back there with Kailub in Grant Baylor kept the number- one KTM out in front in the XC2 Pro class.
