ALESSI HEADED TO CANADA, EH
O
n the morning of the St.
Louis Supercross, Tony
Alessi, the father of Mike Alessi,
revealed their plans for the sum-
mer and those plans include a
trek to the Great White North.
The MotoConcepts/SmartTop
Team, which Tony Alessi man-
ages, will be racing the Canadian
Motocross Series.
"The MotoConcepts/Smart-
Tops Team plan for the summer
is to start out motocross at Glen
Helen, which is Mike's home-
town race," said Tony Alessi.
"That's where he grew up, that
is his back yard, so he will defi-
nitely be a part of that. But the
next weekend is Hangtown, and
on the same weekend is the first
round of the Canadian series, so
it appears that no matter what the
outcome of Glen Helen, even if
we win, we're going to the first
race in Canada, which is on a
great little island up in the north-
west so we're excited about that.
So we are going to go there and
do that race, and then we're
going to evaluate our situation
at that point and see what we
like. What's better for the team,
what's better for the riders."
Tony Alessi added that recent
on-track incidents involving Mike
had no affect on this decision.
"I want to make it very clear
that we're not in any way blocked
in from riding the AMA Nationals,
it's not like we're running away
from the AMA races in any way.
We're just looking for more op-
tions, more possibilities, and it
looks like we have new possibili-
ties in Canada, which is a com-
peting series."
MotoConcepts 250 rider Kyle
Cunningham will move up to
the 450 class for the Canadian
round, and the team will bring in
number four Canadian 250 rider
Jeremy Medaglia to ride the 250
class.
Shan Moore
Mike Alessi is
planning to race
the Canadian
National Moto-
cross Series this
summer.
