that one mistake going down
the start straight into that left-
hander," he said. "I missed a lot
of time there but I was able to
regroup and get second. It's all
about the points right now. We've
been working hard and now we're
slowly clicking down the races to
the last one."
This was another one of those
slippery tracks that Villopoto dis-
likes. These are also the races
that championships are won on,
and RV did what he needed to do,
coming away with good points
and staying on two wheels.
STARTS ARE KEY
With the tracks as slippery as
they are this year, more often
than not, getting a good start can
make the difference between
getting on the podium or not.
Most of the time the winner is at
least top three at the end of the
first lap. Dungey proved with his
win a few weeks ago that he has
the speed to win, but in Detroit,
he just didn't get the start.
"I actually got out of the gate
in good shape, but I think it was
[Justin] Brayton, he clipped me
and it knocked my hand off the
handlebar, and I was thinking I
got to grab the throttle and go,"
said Dungey. "I was kind of for-
tunate because Stewart stayed
on the gas, so I decided to go in
tight to the left but there was Vil-
lopoto, so I stood it up a little and
went under him, and I was able to
go around the inside and do the
table jump. I think a lot of guys
messed that up on the first lap,
so I was able to come out in good
shape, but I was still in the back
a little bit."
At the end of the first lap,
Dungey was fifth, not far behind
Wilson. Dungey passed Wilson
on the next lap, but it took him six
laps to finally pass Seely.
"I finally got around Cole but
then after that I never got close
