VOL. 51 ISSUE 11 MARCH 18, 2014 P33 Kiwi Levi Sherwood won the opening round of the X- Fighters World Tour in Mexico City. X-FIGHTERS OPENER TO SHERWOOD T he opening round of the 2014 Red Bull X-Fight- ers World Tour electrified Mexico City with a freestyle motocross battle that set up rivalries for a season that will span four continents. Levi Sherwood, the 2012 World Tour Champion, was crowned the victor, with up-and-coming Aussie Josh Sheehan finishing second. Spaniard Dany Torres, the 2011 series champ, finished third. In an unexpected turn of events, 2013 cham- pion Thomas Pagès was eliminated in the quar- terfinals. The competition went off in front of a sold-out crowd of 38,000 spectators in the Monumental Plaza de Toros bullring. "I was really trying not to focus on who I was riding against and to just do my best," said Sher- wood. "As the season goes on I'll continue to push and make my own way."
