Indy and at Daytona, Stewart
crashed in the first turn of both
main events and was pretty much
done before he was able to make
a single lap.
"My guys were telling me to
stay upright on the first lap and
I might be alright," Stewart said
after taking his main event win. "I
got a great jump and then I think I
checked up too much going into
the first corner, guys were going
down everywhere, and after you
hit the deck on the first lap for the
last three weeks, I just wanted to
make sure I got through it."
Stewart got through it okay,
coming out of turn one just be-
hind Seely before making the
pass for the lead by the end of
the lap. Later, a bobble by Villo-
poto would allow Stewart to put
more distance on the Kawi rider
and, from that point on, it was
all Stewart's race. He rode flaw-
lessly the rest of the way to claim
victory by almost two seconds
