Held at the Mud Muckers Off-
Road Park in Bunnell, Sunday's
GNCC opener presented a much
different type of terrain than rid-
ers are used to seeing at round
one. Rather than a brutally rough
and whooped-out sand track,
this year's 12-mile course show-
cased some of the most intense
mud bogs that GNCC encoun-
ters all season. In addition to the
built-in mud sections, a substan-
tial amount of rainfall leading up
to the event made for wet condi-
tions all around.

avoided the chaos by shooting
out of the start to claim the $250
All Balls Racing XC1 Holeshot
Award, followed by heavy hit-
ters, such as Paul Whibley, Ryan
Sipes and Thad DuVall close be-
hind. While Russell struggled to
move up early on, Mullins wasted
no time reaching the front-run-
ners, and that's when the lead
battle began to ensue.
