hard work I put in this winter paid
off. The end of the race seemed
to last forever. I saw the five-lap
board and couldn't believe there
was that much still to go."
Rush is coming back to Dayto-
na this season after winning the
other round of the doubleheader
last year. He said he thinks he
knows one of the key reasons the
track produces such a diversity
of winners.
"Daytona always gets rutted
up and really rough," Rush said.
"You have to be willing to just
throttle through the rough stuff
and that takes a lot of confidence
or maybe you have to be a little
nuts to be able to go fast on that
kind of track. The way I look at
it is the ruts give you a place to
find traction. I like it better than
a cushion track where you just
slide through and have to use a
