MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 10 MARCH 11, 2014 P51
MORE TROUBLE
FOR TOMAC
Like Villopoto, Eli Tomac took a hard fall in practice
on the tricky Daytona course. But while Villopoto was
able to finish the session and ride the main event, Tomac
walked off the course after his crash with a bloody face
and then decided to sit out the main, even though he
was checked over in the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit
and deemed fit to ride.
A source within the team said that Tomac fell on the
same shoulder that he injured at Anaheim I and ag-
gravated it, and since he was out of the points race, he
decided to call it a day.
After crashing at the series opener, Tomac had the
shoulder checked out but nothing was found to be
damaged. "It was a weird deal because I went to a few
different specialists and there was nothing structurally
wrong with my arm or my shoulder, but at the same time,
it was really weak while it was healing. I just couldn't hold
onto the bike well enough to race at this level," Tomac
said back in January.
Tomac tried to return to action at the Phoenix round
but the shoulder proved to be more problematic than
originally thought.
"We tried every kind of therapy and rest cycles we
could," Tomac said. "The thought was that if I could ride
in Phoenix or A2 and get any kind of result, I'd at least
earn enough points to stay in the championship picture,
but I just couldn't do it. After that we just decided to let
it heal all the way, get in some really good training and
riding, and come back when I was 100 percent."
This week, we will be on the lookout again to see if
Tomac is in for Detroit.
