SEELY SURPRISE
Cole Seely filled in for an injured Justin Barcia for
the Honda Muscle Milk Team and made the most of the
opportunity by scoring his first career podium in the 450
class. He was planning on coming to Indianapolis any-
way for sponsor commitments, but when he saw Barcia
crash while watching on TV he had a feeling his phone
would ring.
"I just had two days on the bike," Seely said of practic-
ing the week before Indy. "I felt ready for the weekend,
pulled the trigger and came out here."
Seely said he got lucky to avoid the trouble at the start
of the main.
"Stewart got into me and kind of bounced off me and
went left into Hill," Seely explained. "I put my head down.
I knew I was in fifth or sixth and made some passes
on some riders, and then me and Brayton were kind of
pacing off each other. He was in front of me and I think
he could kind of feel my pressure. We ride a lot and train
a lot together so that made it fun for me. It took some
pressure off me to get that test-track feeling. I got around
him and then was clicking off laps trying to chase down
Alessi and Tomac. Then Alessi made a mistake and went
down. I actually made a mistake when he did and got
into a Tuff Block and had to back out of it and go. That's
how the pass for third was made. I looked back and saw
where Villopoto was and just tried to manage that gap the
best I could on those last five or six laps."
