MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 8 FEBRUARY 25, 2014 P49
had been so close to victory so
many times before, the 27-year-
old from Ecuador, finally put it all
together to claim the confidence-
building win.
"It's an unbelievable feeling,"
Davalos said. "It's been a long
time coming and I couldn't have
done it without everyone who
has stuck behind me all this time.
My family is here from Ecuador,
which means the world to me.
People don't realize what I've
done to commit to chasing this
dream."
Adam Cianciarulo, who
opened his Supercross career
last weekend with a win at the
Dallas Supercross, put in an-
other solid performance to nab
second place, joining his team-
mate on the podium. Cianciarulo
rode like a veteran at the Georgia
Dome – but not before a couple
of miscues. After crashing twice
in the heats and getting a poor
gate pick, the 17-year-old shook
off those mistakes - including
one mental error that came in
the main - and pretty much rode
like a seasoned pro - steady and
consistent - through out the 15-
lap race to finish a close second.
GEICO Honda's Justin Bogle
was the first non-Kawasaki-
mounted rider of the young 250
East Series to make the 250 po-
dium by finishing third.
Cianciarulo leads the two-
race-old 250 East Champion-
ship by two points over Davalos.
Seven points back in third is an-
other Monster Energy/Pro Cir-
cuit/Kawasaki Team rider Blake
Baggett. Bogle is fourth, two be-
hind Baggett.
A CONTRAST IN STYLES
You could say that the Atlanta
race was a contrast in styles:
Ken Roczen, with his smooth
style, and Ryan Villopoto, with his
hard-charging, rear-wheel-steer-
ing style - both attacking a very
tough and technical track in their
own way. Both riders were look-
ing forward to getting to the East
Coast tracks where the softer dirt
would allow for better traction
Briefly...
Ken Roczen says he's living back
at his home in Florida. "It's cool to
be back in Florida," said Roczen. "I
like the dirt there and it's just a great
place to train." Roczen trains with
Ryan Villopoto and Adam Ciancia-
rulo.
Rumor has it that the Supercross
Series will make two stops at the
Georgia Dome in 2015. When you
consider the huge crowds the stadi-
um usually gets, why not? There has
also been talk in the pits that the Ana-
heim rounds will get reduced to two
in 2015 with the series returning to
San Francisco. Oakland, however, is
expected to remain on the schedule.
Another rumor out there is that the
Seattle round might be taken off the
schedule after the 2014 season.
The Toyota/Yamaha/N-Fab/JGRMX
Team was a busy place at the Geor-
gia Dome, as it fielded all three of
its 450-class riders: Justin Bray-
ton, Josh Grant and Phil Nicoletti.
Grant was back from an injury, and
the team's fill-in rider, Nicoletti, was
competing in one of his planned rac-
es. Both Brayton and Grant finished
out the night in the top 10, but Nico-
letti dropped out of the main just a
few laps in.
Martin Davalos (31) leads last
week's winner Adam Cianciarulo
in the 250 East main.
