MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES VOL. 51 ISSUE 7 FEBRUARY 19, 2014 P43 to Barcia about the incident and basically gave him a warning, al- though Barcia pointed out that he was whipping the bike over that same jump on just about every lap, and that lap was no different. "I was just riding my own race when Roczen caught up with me," said Barcia. "He tried to pass me in the whoops and he wasn't able to make it stick. He was next to me over the triple and there was a little controversy over that, how close it was. But I was doing that every lap, so he revved his bike and I looked over at him, which made him mad, I guess, but I was still racing. It was a little sketchy, but everyone is good and it's all okay." Barcia went on to have his best result of the year. "It was a good night of racing," he said. "Obviously I always want to win but third is great for me, especially since I haven't had the best results so far. Mentally this season has been a challenge so it feels really awesome to be back up on the podium. I wish I rode in the main how I did in the heat race. I felt really solid and think I could have caught James [Stewart] if there were a few more laps, but in the main, I got pretty tight towards the end and was just trying not to make any mis- takes. I am really looking forward to next weekend. I love Atlanta. It's kind of like a home race for me, so I have a lot of friends and family coming, which is exciting. Hopefully I can get on the podi- um again." Brayton, Villopoto, Roczen and Barcia Make Four As Stewart and Dungey sepa- rated themselves from the rest of the pack in the main event, Ryan Villopoto, Ken Roczen and Justin Barcia made up a scrum battling over third. In the end, it was Bar- cia with the final podium position, but for a while it was anyone's game. Briefly... had a good night. "The main was tough," he said. "The track was chewed up, slippery and bump [and] very technical. I came around first lap in eighth and rode to a seventh. Best finish for me this year and I can keep building from here. I am look- ing forward to Atlanta and all the East Coast races." Injury riddled Blake Baggett was back in action at the Dallas Super- cross. He was originally supposed to ride the 250 West Series but a broken foot suffered while train- ing before the West Series started postponed his 2014 debut. He just started riding again eight days ear- lier. Despite the short time to recoup on the bike, he rode well at Arlington and battled winner Adam Cianciarulo the whole way, ending up second. "I wanted to come out of here with a win but I'm glad to see Adam on top of the box. I didn't have much time on the bike and to come away with second is good," he said. "I want to be on the podium every weekend. I felt good but just haven't ridden that much. I got a little tight at the halfway point and had to salvage it out. After everything I went through last year and my delayed start to this season with the foot injury, I have to admit that it feels good to have such a strong ride and get on the podium. Tonight was bittersweet. It's a bum- mer because the win was right in front of me and initially I was really disappointed, but I've never started a season this strong and never left the first round anywhere near the po- dium. We're in a great position and I'm looking forward to next week al- ready. If I can keep this up there's no doubt I'll be in the hunt for the title in Las Vegas. I know I'm only going to Dungey got back on the podium with a second-place finish. continued on next page
