KING OF THE MOTOS BY TRAIL TECH
ers enter the course and only a handful
survives to the finish. Yet, even course
designer and former desert champion,
ISDE gold medalist, and Dakar Rally ace
Lewis, underestimated the ever-evolving
skills of the top-level, extreme off-road
racers. Don't get this wrong, the course
was gnarly and barely 30 percent of the
field were able to finish the race before
the allotted time, but the top dogs such
as Beta's Cody Webb navigated the
rocks, hills, and sand
washes faster than expected, even with
bald or flat tires while crossing the finish
line.
Although Webb was able put in a re-
peat performance from his win in 2013,
it was not without a fairly stacked field of
opposition. The 2014 KOM was a race
against the clock, as times from both
stages were combined and the rider with
the fastest combined time was crowned
King of the Motos. Trail Tech was the pre-
senting sponsor of the race and each and
every rider was required and needed to
have a GPS to navigate.
On Friday, a short qualifying course
helped set the running order for the start
of the morning loop on Saturday. Mean-
ing the fastest riders left the grid first and
then riders left the line staggered to make
it a real race against the clock and the
course. Webb qualified on the top of
the grid followed by Kailub Russell,
Kyle Redmond, Jordan Brandt, and
Jason Matheney. Some of the other

hard as some of
