for the first time in 1998 by Hollywood stuntmen Kenny Alexander
and Jim Roberts. The inaugural
event took place at L.A. County
Raceway and was basically a
weekend for fellow stuntmen
and friends to get together and
let it all loose on the track. Legends motocrossers such as Broc
Glover and Ricky Johnson lined
up on the gate that day and the
rest as they say is history. Troy
Lee Designs is now largely affiliated with the event, as is Troy Lee
himself, who has created artwork
for the race and fully embraced
what the grand prix is all about,
and he continues to be a huge
supporter.
Being such a big part of the
event, it was not surprising that
some TLD Honda riders came
out to participate this year. Under
the TLD tent was the team's new
young pro from North Carolina,
Shane McElrath, who was on his
own and away from his family, as
well as the Thor Winter Olympics
(Mini Os) which was taking place
in Gainesville, Florida.
"This is the first year I've been
here," he said. "Since I've been
doing the Mini Os for about 10
years now, this is the first year I
haven't been there, and this event
always happens at the same
time, so I've never been out here
to do it. The team mentioned Day
In The Dirt to me about a month

and a half ago and just kind of
planned on coming out here with
the team and just have a good
time."
McElrath also talked about being away from his family on this
Thanksgiving weekend. "It took
me a while to get used to being
on my own, but now everything's
settled in," he said. "I got used to
doing what I had to do out here
and that helped out a lot. The
team has been very welcoming
to me, and I feel I fit in good on
the team. They've provided for
me anything I need. It's different
out here being by myself, but the
team makes it like it's at home.
It's definitely different, but I like
it."
No matter whom a rider called
family this weekend, the racers
all enjoyed the friendly vibes in
the pits, as thousands of people
