the bike wouldn't roll. We had to
radio back to the pit for a wheel.
I stood out there for 20 minutes
thinking, 'I'm an idiot.' You can
go so fast down here and you
have to pace yourself. Constantly
there are things reminding you
not to go that fast."
"The day was crazy," Samuels
said. "Colton rode an amazing
night from the start into the morning and then handed it over to me.
He just got it into the lead when
he handed it to me at San Felipe.
It was just a battle from there.

When Udall went down and lost
all that time, he was surprised to
find out he was still leading at his
next pit, word on the race radio
was that Caselli was missing then found and in need of medical assistance.

Team, who had their own problems, including running out of
fuel, earlier in the race. Udall
handed off the bike to Weigand,
who rode the winning machine
the last few miles to the finish
line.
It was about the time that the
JCR team was celebrating its win
on the podium that word started
spreading of Caselli's death.
"With the uttermost respect,
JCR/Honda extends our condolences to the Caselli family and
KTM," said JCR boss Johnny
Campbell later. "We are very
heart broken over the loss of our
friend and great competitor Kurt
Caselli."
