Then,

significantly,
there's the Joker Lane. This one
is relatively simple: The Joker
Lane is a slow, rough turn-out
from the main racing line – this
year made of crushed red-brick
dust – that every racer must hit
at least one lap in the course of
each of the three 10-lap main
events. And if a racer failed to hit
the Joker Lane, the racer would
be docked five positions.
The Joker Lane caused the
majority of the havoc under the
full moon in Las Vegas last Saturday night.
MAIN EVENT 1
When the gate dropped to start
the first of three main events inside
Sam Boyd Stadium, only the leftside gate fell. JGR/Toyota Yamaha's Josh Grant was battling with
Villopoto off the start, but the red
flag waved immediately because
Stewart, Red Bull KTM's Ryan
Dungey, and everyone else who
qualified on an even number were
stuck at their gate. A similar thing
happened in 2012, but only once.
On the second attempt to start
the first main, only the right-side
gate fell, and Stewart actually led
that group to the red flag.
