Although he was slapped with a
one-point penalty for his role in
Dani Pedrosa's crash in Aragon,
don't expect Marc Marquez to
change the way he races. "I will
be the same," he said.
To Marquez, the message
was, "very clearly, that we understand he is an extremely talented
rider but also intelligent enough
to understand there has to be
some margin for error."
There had been a number of
occasions when Marquez needed to take avoiding action under
braking, and "finally we have an
incident in which Marc was close
enough to make contact." The

sor cable had been severed by a
light touch, and this had disabled
the traction control, precipitating
an instant highside when Pedrosa opened the throttle.
Race Direction took the view
that the cable should not have
been vulnerable, and that furthermore there should be a builtin fail-safe mode (Ducati, for example, double up sensors so the
loss of one makes no difference).
Honda had the 25 points for
the race win docked from their
score in the Constructors Championship, reducing their lead over
Yamaha with new points at 304
to 290. With a maximum of 100
points available at the remaining
four rounds, the issue remained
in doubt.
Race Director Mike Webb explained it was "a message to the
manufacturers about the standard of safety, and the inbuilt
fail-safes for the bikes, to try and
increase the safety."
contact had been quite minor,
but "for us it is a signal to make
a formal warning by way of a penalty point to Marc to say he has to
take more care."
Marquez had no argument,
but asked if he would change his
style in response to the danger of
a back-row start, he said: "I will
try to avoid, but basically, I will be
the same."
