ROUND 6/OCTOBER 5-6, 2013
DESERT EMPIRE FAIRGROUNDS/RIDGECREST, CALIFORNIA
OFF ROAD
P104
AMA DISTRICT 37 BIG 6/WEST COAST GRAND PRIX SERIES
Gordon Ward
returned to action
from a broke femur
that he suffered
earlier in the year.
Of course, he won.
don't think he can catch me.' I
did that and it seemed to work.
He couldn't catch back up until
the end of the race so that was
good."
Though it was his first Big 6 GP
back since suffering a broken femur at round three at Glen Helen,
Ward didn't stop at one race. The
John Burr Cycles-backed Yamaha
rider went on to contest Saturday
afternoon's WCGP, where he finished first Vet Pro and fifth overall.
The West Coast GP was also
treated to a lightweight showdown between Husqvarna's Jamie Lanza and amateur motocross phenom Trevor Stewart.
Lanza, who usually enjoys a solid
victory aboard his Precision Concepts/FMF CR125, had quite a
battle on his hands with young
Stewart.
"He was taking some big
chances," Lanza said of Stewart.
"I finally caught up with him and
he did a superman off his bike in
front of me and crashed. I pulled
out a little bit, he ended up catching me and passing me and he
had a little gap. I was keeping
him in my sights and it looked like
the last half-hour was going to be
a battle, for sure, but I ended up
breaking."
Lanza admits to having made
a mistake putting his top end together, which resulted in it seizing up.
