TEAM USA MATCHES A HISTORIC
SECOND BEST IN SARDINIA
he 88th running of the International Six Days Enduro in
Sardinia, Italy, proved to be
a roller-coaster ride for Team USA,
but when all was said and done,
the U.S. World Trophy Team came
away with a magnificent secondplace finish behind the heavily favored French team. Kurt Caselli,
Taylor Robert, Charlie Mullins,
Thad DuVall and newcomer Zach
Osborne each contributed to the
historic ride over the course of
six days of racing, and each had
problems along the way, as well.
Kailub Russell, Jesse Groemm,
Andrew DeLong and Grant Baylor, the U.S. Junior Trophy Team,
finished up a respectable fourth,
while the U.S. Women's Team –
Mandi Mastin, Rachel Gutish and
Brooke Hodges – was sixth.
This year's World Trophy Team
performance ranks up there with
one of the best ever for a U.S.
squad and it demonstrates the
progress that sophomore team
manager Antti Kallonen has made
with the team. The last time an
American squad finished second was in 1982, and that team
was made up of Mark Hyde, Scot
Harden, Ed Lojak, Mike Melton,
Terry Cunningham and Wally Wilson. The US has never won the
ISDE in the premier class.
Top American for the week was
Monster Energy Kawasaki's Taylor
Robert, who finished the week fifth
overall in the E2 division. Robert
won a test along the way, as well.
