VOL. 50 ISSUE 38 SEPTEMBER 24, 2013
1996 – KOCINSKI AND GOBERT
>> John Kocinski beat Troy Corser to win the first
race and was battling with Anthony Gobert (Gobert
crashed out of the battle for the lead in the first race)
for the lead in race two when his Ducati failed him;
that left Gobert to take the win over Corser, with the
latter using his two second-place finishes to take over
the lead in the World Championship.
>> The locals – other than Kocinski - had a bad day
at Laguna with the best of the wild cards being Doug
Chandler. Chandler's sixth-place finish in race two
was the highlight as neither he nor Miguel Duhamel
made it to the finish line in race one.
>> Kocinski set a new lap record in qualifying with a
1:25.715 on his factory Ducati.
>> Mike Hale returned to Laguna Seca as a World
Superbike regular and finished sixth and 10th on the
Promotor Ducati.
Gobert had plenty
of success at
Laguna Seca,
including a victory
in race two in
1996.
