PREVIEW
ROAD RACE
P52
WORLD SUPERBIKES AT LAGUNA SECA
2002 – FIRSTS FOR BAYLISS
AND EDWARDS
>>Just when it seemed like Colin Edwards was destined to
never win a race in his home round, the Texan did the deed with
a victory in race two. Unfortunately, race one went to the man he
was battling in the World Championship – Troy Bayliss. And it
was a battle that would go to the very end of the season.
>>Nicky Hayden finished fourth in the first race, but crashed in
turn 11 of the second race and took Noriyuki Haga with him.
>>The best of the wild cards was Yoshimura Suzuki's Aaron
Yates.
>>Bayliss left Laguna with a 53-point lead on Edwards.
>>Aaron Gobert's lap record of 1:25.185 withstood another year.
(Left) Edwards and Bayliss share the podium with Neil Hodgson.
(Below) Colin Edwards never had much luck at his home round at
Laguna Seca – until 2002 when he split wins with Troy Bayliss.
