WORLD SUPERBIKES AT LAGUNA SECA
1997 – KOCINSKI TIMES TWO
(Top) John Kocinski (3) leads the World Superbikes over
the hill that is turn one at Laguna.
(Bottom) Kocinski became the first two-race winner at
Laguna when he swept to victory in 1997. Here he shares
the podium with Carl Fogarty (left) and wild card Honda
rider Miguel Duhamel (right).
>>Riding a Castrol Honda RC45, John
Kocinski dominated the 1997 edition of
the World Superbike round at Laguna Seca.
Kocinski won both races to close within four
points of championship leader Carl Fogarty.
>>Fogarty finished second both times out, the
flu-ridden Brit vomiting twice in his helmet in
race two.
>>Miguel Duhamel rode to two third-place
finishes with a concussion, the result of his
600cc Supersport crash on Sunday morning.
>>There were only 14 World Superbikes on
the grid. Fortunately, there were plenty of
American wild cards, including Duhamel,
Doug Chandler, Tom Kipp, Aaron
Yates, Pascal Picotte, Steve Crevier,
Mat Mladin and Dave Sadowski.
