VOL. 50 ISSUE 37 SEPTEMBER 17, 2013 P93 Briefly... ton fortunately does not have anything broken, but he has twisted his left ankle and so it is all swollen, and has probably pulled his tendon a little bit," said Ducati Corse chief Ernesto Marinelli. "They already did all the X-rays and nothing is broken, the only thing is that the ankle is a bit swollen." Badovini did not set a fast time in either qualifying session, as he had to sit out Saturday to allow his ankle swelling to go down. He did one race, but broke down. Except for this coming together with Davide Guigliano (34), Toni Elias (24) showed well in his World Superbike debut. He finished sixth and fifth in the two races. race one, and Elias looked like he may crash. The former Moto2 World Champion said of the incident, for which they were each under Race Direction investigation for a time, "I did not go to him and he did not go to me," Elias said. "It was just the same line and that is it. It was not a big important thing. I am okay - this is the important thing. After the race I joked with Davide and we said, 'all okay.'"They both made it home (Giugliano was fifth and then ninth on the day) as Elias found it a warm – if highly tactile environment in World Superbike. BMW Motorrad Motorsport's, Chaz Davies had dire grip issues to deal with on his S1000RR, and was only eighth and sixth. He is still fifth overall, but he's now 51 points behind his teammate Melandri, with the Italian rider finishing fourth in race two. Fixi Crescent Suzuki's Jules Cluzel was a lone GSX-R rider after Leon Camier was out of the races after the injuries to his right foot and ankle suffered in a practice crash. Cluzel finished seventh in both races. Leon Haslam claimed to have a bad tire – an unusual thing in these days of 17-inch Pirelli control rubber – and it was one of the two new development tires that Pirelli brought to this track. Haslam struggled in race one, to the point that he should have pulled in, and he was another who had a full on clash exiting the final turn. It was with his new teammate Michel Fabrizio, com- Leon Camier had a hard hit on Friday morning when the slippery track caught him out on the exit of turn eight, highsiding him in fourth gear at over 125 mph. He slapped his right leg hard on landing and the eventual diagnosis was seven broken bones in his foot, three of which needed pins to hold them together. He also has a hairline fracture of his ankle and severe contusions on his left elbow. Camier's injury will probably sideline him until the final race at Jerez. "I am obviously really disappointed with what happened yesterday and frustrated that I now have to miss some races," Camier said. "As far as the crash goes, I knew the grip was bad and I was riding accordingly in the conditions. I went through the first left-hander at the top of the hill and the rear just came round on me off the gas - I was really not expecting it to happen. It has left me with seven fractures in the foot and I've got wires, pins and screws in there. It was an intricate operation and the surgeon made sure he did the best job he could." continued on next page
