VOL. 50 ISSUE 37 SEPTEMBER 17, 2013 P61 Briefly... The Black Coal Enduro was held on new trails developed by the Lynnville Area Dirt Riders and funded by an action initiative offered by Yamaha. According to club member Keith Obermeyer, the initiative is to help clubs and organizations around the country get funding to build, mark and maintain trails across the country. "Yamaha was gracious enough to award us with $14,000, which we used to buy all the stakes and decals used to mark new trail for all uses on this state propery," said Obermeyer. "The Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky Enduro Riders, along with the Back Coal Enduro Riders in the Lynnville area, built all this trail for the national enduro and after the event we will be able to mark all this trail for public riding. There is nearly 60 miles of new trail for this enduro and it will be available for public riding after the event." Charlie Mullins clinched the 2013 National Enduro title with a win at the Black Coal National. J.R. Schuler is a second-generation promoter of the Black Coal National Enduro, which last ran in 1985 and was won by Terry Cunningham and promoted by Schuler's father. The younger Schuler has gone to great lengths to bring the Black Coal National Enduro back to prominence.
