TRACK PREP A downpour wreaked havoc during the second qualifying session, forcing the track crew to recover a rain-soaked racetrack. Hard work by the crew and improving weath- er conditions meant that by the time the second motos had rolled around, the track had shaped up nicely and provided close racing. PENALTY REPORT Levi Kitchen and Michael Mosi- man were both penalized for "gaining an advantage while off track on the start." Kitchen was docked four spots, and Mosiman three. Jett Lawrence was docked one license point for going off- track at the start of moto one but did not gain an advantage. Mark Fineis lost one position in 450MX moto two for gaining an advan- tage when he went off track on the start. TP GRAND MARSHAL Travis Pastrana served as the Grand Marshal for this year's Budds Creek National. The Mary- land native, former Pro Motocross Champion, and AMA Hall of Famer returned to his home race as the ceremonial ambassador and gave fans a special autograph session during the race day.
