Rausch Creek Hare Scrambles marks
Nathan Kanney's first AMA victory.

N
ot many riders would choose to race an eight-hour,
120-mile enduro the day before competing in an AMA
National event. But for RER Motorcity/Factory Con-
nection Yamaha's Nathan Kanney, doing just that
seemed to work to his advantage. After competing in
day one of the World Enduro Championship in his home state of New
York, Kanney turned around and headed to Tremont, Pennsylvania for
round seven of the AMA National Hare Scrambles Series where he
took his first career AMA victory.
Kanney's day didn't start out as sweet, however. He decided to take
a different approach to the race rather than pacing himself as he nor-
mally would. Kanney set a very aggressive pace on the muddy Rausch
Creek course, which seemed almost self-destructive at first.
"I tried to take the whole race like it was one special test at the
Enduro and see how fast I could go," Kanney said. "It cost me a lot of
crashes; I crashed nearly ten times. But I was layin' down some good
