Robert Jensen led the charge into the uphill first corner in the Open Superstock Expert final. During the next go-around, Jensen was out; Matt Lynn had grabbed the lead, but he immediately came under attack from the two Vesrah teammates, Lee Acree and Tray Batey. When Lynn went out, Acree took the lead for two laps, but on the lap that counted, Batey crossed the line first. Mike Smith worked his way through the pack to take third, over David Weber. Acree showed Stokes a wheel in a few corners but never got by, as Jensen kept them both honest while running a solid third. Weber made his move on the final lap to take fourth from Taylor Knapp. Seth Starnes started his day off by winning the Open Novice Superstock contest, over Rodney Vesi. Curt Henderson beat Starnes in the 750cc Superstock race, but Starnes turned the tables in the 600cc Superstock race. Starnes beat Henderson again in the 600cc Superbike contest. Tim Hunt snatched the 750cc Superbike win, over Starnes. Jensen came back in the 750cc Expert Superstock to outrun a fired-up Acree. It looked as if Acree had the horsepower down the long back straightaway, but Jensen had him covered. Andy Feuersthaler snatched third from Mark Junge on the third lap, but Garrett Carter made his move on the last lap to take third, over Feuersthaler. Batey took the Vesrah SV1000 to victory over Knapp in the Heavyweight Expert Twins race, while Mark Hyland took the Novice victory. Jeff Walker and Chris Parrish had the battle of the day in the Lightweight Expert final until Walker ran off the track and Parrish rode on to victory. Chris Slay took the Novice win, and Blake Dircks crossed the line just a whisker ahead of Chris Lane for second. In Formula Two, Dane Westby outran Max Norton in the Expert race, while the Honda two-strokes of Kris Turner and Miles Thonton dominated the Novice race. Yamaha-mounted Carter took the victory in the 600cc Expert Superbike final just .586 seconds ahead of Suzuki-mounted Daniel Parkerson. However, Parkerson came back to beat Ryan Clay by .376 seconds in the 750cc Expert Superbike final. The Formula One final turned into a four-man battle among Jensen, Batey, Acree and Smith. Stokes ran strong during the first lap, but Jensen held the upper hand. Batey moved up, only to be replaced by his teammate Acree a lap later. Smith charged into the battle, replacing Batey for third. He then began to hound the fleeing twosome but came up short. The NEGCCS pre- tenders are starting to be cut from the herd of true contenders for the more than $40,000 in product awards. Obviously, Scott USA, Acer- bis, KSA Racing and Race Tools deposited gold into this series, and Dunlop Tires, Fox Racing, Thunder Alley Sports, MSR, Sick Racing, K-100 Fuel Treatment, Answer Racing, PowerMadd, Applied Racing, DP Brakes, FMF, Pro Wheel, No Fear, Fly Racing, Factory 909, Twin Air, WNY Pro Action, No Toil, and more sponsors upped the ante with promises of silver at the NEGCCS awards day to be held at Area51 Motocross on September 10. The gate drop sent 14 Senior B riders thundering into the right-hander holeshot turn in their first moto, with Shawn Mowry leading and Brad Coles racing shotgun. John Young Sr., J o h n M e e h a n , Ka r l G o v e n e t t i o , D e a n Dembinski, Lyndonville's Michael Lenartowicz, and a stream of riders gave pursuit. Mowry, Coles and Young set the pace pretty fast and started a three-bike breakaway, but from the back of the pack there appeared a dark stallion of a Honda with Oakville, Ontario, Canada's Paul Rowan in the saddle, at full gallop. By lap two, Rowan was going flat out, and he had passed Young for third, but could he catch the other two riders in time? With two laps to go, Rowan went "big casino" over the old finish-line jump and cleared both Coles and Mowry before they cornered and brought the spectators lining the fence to their feet. Rowan was the winner of moto one, and Mowry and Coles still landed on the podium. Young and Dembinski pinned d o w n t o p - f i v e s , a n d W N Y Pro Action Suspension guru Don Clarke, Brian Tyler, Govenettio, Lenartowicz, and Dan DeRoller filled out the top 10. Lightning didn't strike twice on this day, as "Wild Bill" Harford got the moto-two holeshot on his mighty KTM. That was it for good news for the rest of the Senior B class, because Rowan was in second place with third gear tapped, looking to get around Harford for the lead. Doug Weinman had trouble in moto one but was now in third place and holding off Young, Coles and Govenettio. Rowan struck pay dirt, taking the lead, and then he moved out to lap half he field. Mowry suffered a mechanical setback early one, and that left Harford, Weinman and Young as the only riders able to stay close enough to even see the leader. When Harford faded, Rowan was way out front, while Coles had a good lead over a big battle among Weinman, Young and Dembinski. In the end, it was two Canadians topping the NEGCCS Senior B podium, with Rowan (1-1) taking first overall and Cambridge, Ontario's Coles (3-2) capturing second overall.
