pole, found himself in third by the
end of the first lap in familiar ter-
ritory, staring at Jacobsen's rear
wheel
after Jacobsen slipped
past him at the start. On lap
seven, Petersen passed Jacob-
sen to take second place, which
he held
until the checkered flag.
The battle for the final po-
dium spot intensified as Kelly
capitalized
on the closing laps.
SDK, who remained a constant
threat in the lead pack, passed
Jacobsen on lap 15, securing
his second third-place finish of
the weekend.
Jacobsen, who led the chase
behind Beach for much of the
race, ultimately settled for fourth.
Fong rounded out the top five,
finishing 8.264 seconds behind
his teammate Beach.
The championship race took
a critical turn after 11 laps,
when points leader Scholtz
suffered a DNF. Scholtz, who
entered Sunday with a slim
two-point lead, worked his way
from 10th to seventh before be
-
ing forced to pull off the track,
opening the
door for a signifi-
cant shift in the title standings
as
the series reaches its half-
way point. SDK (172 points)
now leads Beach
(161 points)
and Scholtz (158 points).
"You know what?" Beach said.
"Coming into the year, I wasn't
doubted, but people weren't
thinking of me for the fight. I
kind of like to compare it to
a golden retriever. When they
show up at a dog park, they look
all sweet, and then you get the
ball out, and they just go for it. I
got that ball finally, and I'm just
fighting for it."
