Prado grabbed a moto podium
but finished fourth overall thanks
to 4-3 results. He battled KTM
teammate Lucas Coenen in race
one and later found himself fight-
ing for an overall podium with
Deegan
on the final laps of the
second moto.
"The first-moto start held me
up big time," Prado said. "As soon
as I got to fourth place, the guys
up front were already over 20
seconds away. But we started
together in race two; I was just
fourth right there the whole time,
and I couldn't do more than that. I
tried my best and we pushed very
hard in the last laps. Haiden did a
good job, and we were ripping on
moto two and looked to make a
run for the lead at one point but
eventually slotted back to third
behind the Aussie duo. He put up
a strong fight at the end of moto
two and held off Jorge Prado for
a season-best second place, his
highest finishing position of the
summer. This helped him earn his
third overall podium as he holds
onto third in the championship
standings.
"That was a dogfight [with
Prado]," Deegan said. "I never
gave up. I'm trying so hard to be
up front, and I'm getting closer
and closer. I'll never give up and
will keep fighting to be up there
every weekend."
BROKEN BONES &
BRUISES
The Southwick track wasn't kind
to many racers. With a few min-
utes left, a red flag prematurely
ended the first 450MX moto
when Christian Craig went down
and suffered a T3 spinous pro-
cess fracture; luckily, no surgery
is required. Nick Romano crashed
in qualifying and did not line up
due to fractures in his T5 and T6
vertebrae. Jo Shimoda suffered
a broken collarbone in qualify-
ing, while Deacon Denno did the
same in the first 250MX moto.
Both Coenen brothers crashed
hard in their motos, but no official
word has emerged regarding their
injuries. Aaron Plessinger also
sat out after suffering an injury at
RedBud, the previous round, that
required stitches just above his
tailbone.
Southwick Notes: Hunter and
Jett Lawrence are still the only
two riders to win motos this year
in the 450 division... Jett ties Bob
Hannah for fourth on the all-time
premier-class motocross wins
list with his 27th overall victory in
only 33 starts. Hannah needed 62
starts. Eli Tomac is next on the
list with 32 wins... Hunter Law-
rence ties Greg Albertyn for 25th
on the all-time 450 Motocross
podiums list with his 23rd in only
28 starts... Sacha Coenen gave
KTM its first outdoor win since
Tom Vialle in 2024... In only eight
250MX Pro Motocross starts,
Cole Davies has two wins, four
podiums and five top fives.
