BY SHAN MOORE CRESSON, TX, JUNE 10 T eam Ridesmart finally had a problem-free race and claimed its first win of the year at round four of the Shogun Motorsports CMRA Endurance Series, held at Motorsport Ranch near Cresson, Texas. After six hours of racing, the GSX-R1000-mounted team topped Desert- Rats.net and Northwest Honda Racing by a full lap to claim the overall win and first in the A Superstock class. At one point or another, Team Ridesmart has led every race so far this year, but each time the team has developed some sort of problem and dropped out of contention. However, at Motorsport Ra n c h , u n d e r e x t r e m e l y h o t conditions, Team Ridesmart put it all together, with the help of new addition Bryan West, to claim the win and a lion's share of the $1125 purse offered by Shogun Motorsports. "We just haven't been able to get any luck this season, but today we finally had some come or way," said Team Ridesmart team owner and rider Craig Clark. "We got lucky on the first red flag and got to do a rear-tire change early, and that took us all the way to the finish." "We've led every race this year but just had problems," a d d e d Te a m R i d e s m a r t ' s Shannon Ball. "This feels great to win, and I am just real glad we got some help from Westy. Everybody on the team does a great job, but sometimes it just doesn't work out." However, at Motorsport Ranch, everything did work out for Team Ridesmart. After the second red flag of the day stopped the racing action at the four-hour mark, and with four teams still on the lead lap, the six-hour endurance race would basically be decided by a two- hour "sprint" to the finish. Team Ridesmart, Desert-Rats.net, Northwest Honda Racing and Junk Yard Dogs all remained on the lead lap, and when the green flag dropped for the third time, Ball put Team Ridesmart into the lead and slowly pulled away, as Northwest Honda Racing's Greg Abbott and Desert-Rats.net's Troy Green battled over the second-place position, just ahead of Junk Yard Dogs. Ball built nearly a full-lap lead before handing off to West, who brought the Suzuki home for the win. Desert-Rats.net, riding the Yamaha YZF-R1, eventually broke away from Northwest Honda Racing's CBR1000RR to claim second overall, while Junk Yard Dogs came home with fourth overall on their GSX-R600, another two laps back. Finishing fifth overall and first in the C Superstock division was Lone Star Track Days, which topped 2Wheelz.com by just 38 seconds to take the position. The finish also moved them into first place, ahead of 2Wheelz.com, in the C Superstock standings. Lone Gunmen also ran a problem-free race and came home with the C Superbike win on the GSX-R600 with an eighth-place finish overall. Fireball Racing ran strong to win the Formula Two class in 13th overall, while class rivals Faltless Racing had a day to forget about, after being involved in both red-flag incidents.
