California Racing Club Saturday Night Motocross Los Angeles County Raceway CRC Saturday Night Opener to Eubanks BY GREG ROBERTSON PALMDALE, CA, JUNE 3 J ustin Eubanks and Brandon Kovacs each picked up a 125cc Novice moto win, with Eubanks' coming in the tie-breaking second moto to earn the overall, during the opening round of the California Racing Club's Saturday night motocross season, held at Los Angeles County Raceway. When the gate dropped for first-moto action, it was Eubanks, on his Tru Tech/O'Neal/Six Six One-backed KX250F, edging out Kovacs for the holeshot. Cory Conner gated in third, ahead of Chris Pulliam and Kameron Robinson. Eubanks and Kovacs quickly separated themselves from the rest of the field while waging a battle that would last for the entire race. Kovacs dogged Eubanks up until the final lap before finally being able to make a pass stick to take the win. Pulliam finished third, with Jarrett Kovacs coming up through the field and holding off Armando Aguilar for fourth. Eubanks absconded with his second holeshot of the evening as moto two hit the track. Brandon Kovacs quickly passed Eubanks for the top spot, but a bobble shortly thereafter dropped him back to third. Jarrett Kovacs inherited the runner-up position and started pressuring Eubanks. Brandon Kovacs repassed his brother Jarrett for second place, and a couple of laps later he was all over Eubanks' back fender. Brandon Kovacs and Eubanks traded the lead back and forth, with Brandon stuffing Eubanks off the track on the white-flag lap. Eubanks shot through the infield, re-entering the track ahead of Brandon, where he would stay for the final few turns for the win. Jarrett Kovacs finished a close third for third overall, ahead of Aguilar (5-4) and Tylor Hemme (6-6). Holley Racing's James Holley went the distance for the first 85cc Beginner moto win on his YZ85. The lone girl in the field, Shelby Ward, claimed second, followed by Tyler Moore, Dane Rouse and Kyle Brown. Holley got the holeshot in moto two, just ahead of Ward and Moore. Ward went down on the opening lap and dropped to the back of the pack, while Rouse overtook Moore for second place. Rouse hounded Holley for most of the moto until Ward charged up back through the pack and passed them both for the well-deserved second-moto win and the overall victory. Holley slid out in a turn on the last lap and finished in third, behind Rouse, but he still collected the second-place trophy. RESULTS P/W YAM/SUZ BEG: 1. Gage Cory (Yam); 2. Kade Garrett (Yam).
