Puttkamer was holding on to second aboard the KTM. All eyes were now on Lee as he made his charge back through the field, but with time winding down, it was Papczynski's race to lose - and that, he didn't. Puttkamer and RM85-mounted Shumate finished second and third, with Lee taking fourth after several mistakes, just ahead of Christian Sullivan. The first combined 85cc (7-11) and (12-15) moto started off with a bang, as Lee absconded with the holeshot and never looked back. Lee, the lone junior rider, set an unmatchable pace out front and soon found himself all alone. He stayed there to the checkers. Papczynski took second in the moto (and first in the elder division), ahead of Puttkamer, Shumate, and local fast guy Dalton Scott. Moto two got off to a much different start, as Lee allowed the field a first-turn head start before setting out after them. Out front and in the early lead, Puttkamer looked noticeably faster than in the previous moto, and not making many mistakes. Lee was going to really have to work at catching him in traffic. But when the white flag flew, Lee took over and held the lead all the way to the checkers. "I had fun tonight," said a steaming and sweaty Lee. "Alex was flying in that last moto tonight.
