tried to put in a few good laps
to try and close the gap, but he
was riding so good. I just tried
to bring it in, and I knew a 2-2
would get it done. It was a fun
day."
Derek Drake finished second
overall aboard his BarX Yamaha
with 4-3 scores and pocketed
$5000 in the process.
Barcia rounded out the podi
-
um thanks to a dominant second
moto,
in which he led every lap.
The Troy Lee Red Bull Ducati
rider led early on in moto one but
fell twice and eventually finished
seventh. Still, a 7-1 earned him
$4500 in prize money.
Saturday's Pro Showcase was
split into separate divisions for
the 250 and 450 riders, unlike
Friday's race, which saw a mixed
40-rider gate. Barcia dominated
both of the 30-minute-plus-two-
lap motos and cruised his way
to the $10,000 purse. Even with
a fall late in the second moto, he
managed to sweep all but one
race throughout the weekend
and pocketed nearly $15,000
for two days of work. Barcia
is another rider racing himself
back into shape as he gears up
for his first Pro Motocross sea
-
son aboard the new Desmo450
machine.
"I
was definitely pushing hard
the whole moto," Barcia said. "I
was holding that gap pretty well
between eight and 10 seconds,
and then toward the end, some
rocks started coming up. I got
a little too far into the berm and
just pushed it down. I had to ride
hard the last three laps to keep
the win. I would say we learned
a few things on the bike this
weekend going into the outdoor
nationals, so that was great."
Nichols finished Saturday with
another second-place finish, this
time earning second overall. He
looked comfortable aboard the
RM-Z and put himself up front in
both motos, taking the runner-
up spot behind Barcia. A 2-2
matched his Friday result and
earned him $6000, bringing his
weekend total to $16,000.
Justin Hoeft finished third
overall and was the top off-road
racer of the weekend. The Pro
Circuit Kawasaki rider looked
strong on Friday with a moto po
-
dium and brought the heat again
on
day two. A fifth in moto one
set him up well, and Hoeft later
battled with Nichols for a po
-
dium spot in the second moto. A
better finish in the
second moto
gave Hoeft the advantage over
Justin Rodbell and put $4500 in
his pocket.
Rodbell grabbed a third in the
first moto and finished fourth
overall. Derek Drake finished
on the box on Friday, and a 6-4
score saw him round out the top
five for Saturday.
Carson Mumford made a
statement Saturday in the 250
Pro Showcase class. The AEO
KTM rider took the win in both
motos and looked comfortable
in his first real outdoor race
aboard the Austrian machine.
Mumford moved to the lead ear

ly in race one and led every lap
of
the second moto. A dominant
