When Herrin is at his mad-
dest, that's when the magic hap-
pens. But this time, his Daytona
pace appeared to
desert him
right when he needed it most.
Over the next five laps, Jacob-
sen went on a charge. A series
of
1:49-second laps seemingly
broke Herrin's resolve, the gap
ballooning from 2.6 seconds af-
ter the stop to over six seconds.

name on the trophy as the win-
ner of the 84th Daytona 200,

was right in Herrin's
way, and
the number two ran straight into
him, stalling the bike and losing
valuable seconds to Jacobsen.
"The first pit stop, I feel like
I was five to seven seconds
behind those guys coming out
of the pits because my bike
wouldn't start," Herrin said.
"They pushed me probably 50
yards down the pit lane. Then
I'm sure everybody saw what
happened on pit lane in the last
pit stop. The camera guy was
filming PJ leaving the pit, and I
ran him over. I was so angry. I

"We got a much better start yester-
day, and we were up with the group,"
Vossberg said after race two. "I made
a pass for the lead and just decided
to try and break away and was able to
have the pace in the infield to do it. It
was really good, and I tried to do the
same thing again today, but with that
red flag, we had three extra pounds in
our rear tire, so it was sliding around
and everything, and especially later
in the race, they were able to catch
back up. I [just] passed them too early
coming to the line, and that's Day-
tona. We got good points, and that's
all that matters."
