J
osh Herrin (Rahal Ducati
Moto with Desnuda Or-
ganic Tequila) is now a
five-time Daytona
200 Cham-
pion after his fourth straight win,
tying
the record with immortals
Miguel Duhamel and Scott
Russell as the most successful
riders in the history of the race.
Herrin did it the hard way,
battling three broken ribs from
a painful crash while testing at
Podium Club in Arizona, then
picking up a dreaded children's
flu from one of his kids back
home in California, the constant
coughing ensuring the ribs were
never fully healed by race day.
The race was initially sched
-
uled for 57 laps but was
stopped
on lap two due to a
crash. At the restart, Wristin
Grigg (Celtic/Economy Lube
+ Tire/Warhorse Ducati) went
down in a turn-one crash that
included Briton Danny Webb
(Team Classic Suzuki) and
Bryce Kornbau (BPR Racing Ya
-
maha), but officials kept the red
flag in the drawer
and allowed
the race to continue.
By three-quarters race dis-
tance, Herrin and Rahal Ducati
teammate PJ
Jacobsen had
distanced themselves from the
chasing pack, and the two came
into the pits together for their
final stop with 13 laps to go.
