nr Srodium SUPERCROSS Rounds I4l r 3 April I. 2006 2006 Amp'd Mobllc World Supercross GPl Amp'd Mobile AMA Supencnoss Scpi€s L 27 After grabbing the holerhot and finishing fifth in the main event the week before in D6troit, Nick Wey had a relatively of{ night in Houston. The MD|I/Moto6port/Honda-backed rider sufiered a poor start in th6 main and spent mocr of the night trying to catch up. "l felt like I had the p6ce, but I iust didnt 8et $e start I needed to run up front," Wey said. "l spent the whole race trying to catch up, and at the end lwas a whole lane behind seventh. gLrt we've got three races left and I am goin8 to put everylhing into it, because I really want to finish lifth in the seriei You know I'm not gonna lie - this track was terrible. lt was really hard to make up time. I had a touth race tonight arld I'm lookin' to come b6ck swinEnS in Dallas." 70 liri Dostal made his fourth main event of the year in Houston after a solid ride in dle first semi, "l felt pretty good today and everythin8 wert pretty smooth in my day qualifier, ny hear and my semi," Donal said. "But when I tot into the main, I kind of dorked out and got tight. I didn't ride up to my pot€mial, but I am pretty pumped to be in the main event. The track was tough, because it 8ot chewed up ptetty bad, with pothohs and chop. That's one of the reasons I tightened up. That iust made for a tough 20 laps." I h.an Tedesco was off hls normai pace in Houston ard bat- tled for mosr of the main ev€nt with Team Kawasaki's Michael Byme for fifth, after passing Team Honda's liuvis Preston early i. the mce. Tedesco pw his Makita Suruki around Preston on lap five of the main, but couldnt gain the real6tate to get around Byrne. "l felt stuck in a rut tonitht," Ted€sco said. "Even lhough I didn't get the great- est start, I made some decent moves to get myself into position to either Bet on the podium or at least get close to the podium. And then I iurt go! stuck in a rut. lt was very fmst€ting. I tried some things but nothinS seerned to really work out for me." 32 Ryan Clark said he strugSled through practice and the heat races, where he transferred via a win in the LCQ, but finished oll the nighr in st/le with a lfth-place finish in the main. "l was really far on the outside due to rny poor qualifiation, so I opted to cut under in the Ilrst comer rather rhan become a orget on the out- side of turn one," Clark said. "By the end of the tirst lap I was in l4th. lt felt more like the 9 I freeway than a Sup€rcross race. a5 the line ofriders in front of me were in seemingly 5in8le-lile for- mation- Eventually, riders beSan to tire and make mistakes. allow- int me to move through the field and up into loth position. lwas ridint much better for the main evenr, ahhoLrgh it was frustEtins not beinS able to get through traffic for the first half of the race. Tim Ferry who sat iust two points ahead of me in the AMA standinSs heading into rhe weekend, was also one position ahead of me for most ofthe main event, lwas able to make up a little tround on him as the race wore on but was unable to make a pass and gain any points. I did. however, keep things close as we enter the final three Supercross races of 2006." Windham passed Byme for fourth on lap six, while Tedesco put some distance on Preston. Lappers became a big factor over the llnal 15 laps of the 20-lap race, especially since the lap times on the Houston course were much shoner than usual - only in the low-to mid-40s. At the finish, Stewart came home some four seconds ahead of Carmichael. with Reed another 17 seconds back. Windham claimed his best finish since returning to action after recgverin8 from a prese:Ison iniun/ with a solid fourth, while Byrne fended off Tedesco's advances to finish fifth. Preston ended up with seventh with Wey in eighth. "l feel like I was pretry consistent all night." Carmichael said. 'lames has gor six wins now l've got six wins and we're tied for the World title. lt's what everybody wants to see. But l'm just looking forward to getting better, to imProvins my Per- formance at the beginning of the race and still being there at the end." With iust Dallas. Seattle and Las Vegas remaining on the schedule. Carmichael now leads the AMA standings with 281 points, followed by Reed with 269 and Stewart with 264, and the series takes I8 APRII 12,2006 .
