The
lack of
rain leading up to the race made for
some
of the
flre-road
sections to
get
a little dusty,
but the
more
technical trails
found
deep
in
the woods remained
per{ectly
moist. The
usual rain
didn't start
falling
untilthe last lap,
but that was still enough time make rhings
a
little
slick and affect the outcome for
some competitors
further
in the
pack.
And the drier-than-normai conditions
weren't the only
abnormaliq/ at this
year's
Hollister Classrc

there was no Brian
Garrahan, the local hotshoe who is always
a favorte
at this
race. A
few weeks earliec
Garrahan broke his leg at the National
Hare
Scrambles
opener in Arizona,
which
forced him out of this
year's
lineup.
So
his
brothei
Patrick, had
to
take
up the slack.
