Gourde caught l4cBride and took over second with a new lin€ throu8h the tree-and-rock section. Letcher had trouble in the rock pale, and Gourde jumped to first. Meanwhil€, Sykora moved into second, ahead of McBride. Letcher and Gourd€ battled for several lap. before Gourde pulled out a comfortable mar8in. The race ended with Gourde takinS the \rin, followed by Letcher. Sykora and McBride. fi|4 dealer servce representative Steve Drewlo rolled into the lineup ofthe Open A class with a 400 EXC that look€d like it was ritht offthe showroom floor As the entines fired and the riders headed into the rhythm section, Scott griSht held the lead, followed by Kyle Barry, Drewlo and Daniel Harmon. Bright had trouble in the whoops and dropped back: Stur8is Yamaha-backed Barry was ,irst into the rock pit, with D.€wlo, Harmon, Ross Rhode and The UPS Store of Spearfish's Chris Farrar hor on his tail. Half a lap later, Drewlo pulled up to Barry in the whoops and made the pass over th€ double. Drewlo and Barry were making time on the field by double' iumpin8 a section that contained two loSs more than two feet in diameter and about l0 feet apart. Mart Geary was makinS his move after a terrible start; he moved to fourth after Farrar Eot hun8 up on rhe railroad tracks. Drewlo had pulled out to a comfortable lead and set the cruise .ontrol when he nearly went down vvhile doublinS the logs. Harmon made a mistake on the racks, allowing Geary to make the pass on the rock pile. As the ls-minute race h€aded into the final minutes, Barry started a charge. Barry was the only rider still jumpin8 the two logs as well as the lo8 pile; he reeled in Orewlo and pulled alongside in the lo8-and-rock section, and then a8ain in the rock pile. The duo battled together for the final two laps before the Powersports GraffirMotorex/KTl'4-backed Drewlo took the win, ahead of Ba.ry Afterward, Barry discussed his strategy to take a break and then charSe at the end.
