Gluol.omm Srddium Son Diogo, CA sUPERCROSS Round 6 Februory I t, 2006 close AMA West Supercross Lites title battle. ln San Diego, Short edged out the other dual winners to record his second West Lites main event win of the year after leading from start to fln- ish in front of a near-sold-out Qual- comm Stadium. Langsron linished sec- ond and Ramsey third. The win put Short back on rop ofthe West SX Lites leaderboard, but not by much. Short, who had held the points lead early in the series, dropped Langston back to second, but has onfy a two-point cushion going into the final two rounds of the series, which resumes fqllowing a seven-week break. Ramsey is still in the hunt, ll points behind Short. "lt's a long break and that would be a long time to think abour a poor per- formance," Shon said of the San Diego win. "l came out with a win and that was the goal cominS into this race. I am ri8ht where I want to be in this champi- onship, and it gives me some time to regroup and take a break and try and find some speed." One might think that Short already has the speed, after all, he iun won the main event for the second time this year, but had the Lites main been 16 laps and not 15, the results might'ye been a lot different, and that was because of the impressive come-from- behind performance turned in by last week's winne4 Langston, "l put myself in a good position off the start, and Grant was comin8," Short said. "One more lap I might've been SOL," Shon admitted, LanSston didn't get a very good lump off the line and then got tangled up with riders in the first turn and completed the first lap in l4th place. But the I'4onster Energy/Pro CircuivKawasaki team rider blitzed his way up through the pa.k and moved into second on the l2th l+, and then he quickly chopped away at Short's rapidly shrinking lead, closing to within a bikelength of the Honda rider by the time the white llag came out. Lan8ston, whose average lap time over the lSJap race was actually a half-second faster than Short's, simply nm out of time, taking the checkered flag 0.837 seconds behind Short. "l don't know what happened in the beginning." Langsron said of rhe stan. "Basically there was Andrew Ryan Mllopotol, myself and Nathan, and I just got pinched between everyone, but I didn't come out of the gate clean. When you're behind, that's what is going to happen. I thought I would try and be smart and hut the inside, because that worked out for me pretty decent in the heat AmP' F irst it was Nathan Ramsey, then it was Grant Langston, now it's Team Honda's Andrew Short ioin ing the two-win club in the ever-so- Mobile Western R€gional Supercross Lit€s SGniEs Andrew Short recorded his second 9X Lites-closs win of the series qnd moved bock into the points leod with two lo go.
