Briefly,..
Reed
joined
Stewart
and Carmichael
on the
podium, adding a third-Place
finish
to his four seconds
and
one fifth. Once
again,
Reed never really
got
the chance
to
mix
it
up
with
the lead duo after
Setting
off
to a fifth-place
start.
By the time he
got into third
on the second
lap, he was
already about
five seconds
behind sec-
ond-place
Stewart and, even
though
he
posted
some
decent
lap times, he could-
n't
quite
hang with
battlinS
leaders, even-
tually
taking the checkered
flag
about
e€ht seconds
behind
Carmichael.
"l
feel like I ran a strong
race, but
it
just
wasn't as strong
as these
guys,"
said Reed
who
was seeking
his fourth strai8ht
win
at
the San
Diego race.
'At
the beginning,
I
got
into third
right away,
and I could see
them,
but when
lam making
mistakes,
l'm taking
too long to recover.
They are
just
hitting
their
marks the whole
time
and
recovering real
quick. That's some-
thing I
got
to Yr'ork
on."
Reed attributed
some of
his
Problems
to simply
trying too
hard.
"Yeah,
I think for
sure," Reed said.
"l
want
to
win so bad that
I am tryinS
so
hard and there
is only
so much I can do.
I
think
going
back
East is
Soing
to help
a lit-
tle
bit."
Reed added
that he's
got to step
things
up if he
wants to
race with Stewart
and
Carmichael
"l
think they
are ridinS
real well," he
said.
"They
have definitely
stepped it up
a
notch, and
now
it's my turn to step
it uP.
So I am
really
looking forward
to the
remainder
of
the season, and
I
just
want
to
get
up
there and make
it a three-way
lrace]
and
make it fun."
Seven-time
Supercross
ChamPion
Jeremy
McGEth flnished
off
his six-race
swin8
on a high
note,
finishing fourth for
the second time.
"l
iust
tried
really hard to
get
a
Sood
start and it worked
out
8ood,"
Mccrath
said.
"Then
ltried to latch
on to
those
guys
and
ffied
to
gap
the
guys I would
normally be racing
with.
I
ended
up stay-
ing with
Reed lor more than
halfway, and
then after that
- shoot
- it was relatively
easy.
I had l0 seconds on
[Mike]
LaRocco,
I
just
had to make
sure and hit all of
my
lines and
jump
the
iumps
-
it was awe-
some."
Rounding
out
the top five
was
SoBe/Samsung
Mobile
Honda's Mike
LaRocco
who started off
in seventh.
LaRocco
spent a better
pan
of the
race
mixing it up
with Kawasaki's
Michael
Byrne and
l"lakita Suzuki's
lvan
Tedesco.
LaRocco came
out ahead
of that battle,
while Tedesco ended
up sixth and
Byrne
seventh.
Eighth
place
went to l'4Dl(
Motospon's Nick
Wey who
sliPPed into
the feature
via a win in the
LCQ.
Team
Honda's Ernesto
Fonseca
fln-
ished up ninth after
nearly
going down in
the first turn
and later
running off
the
track, while
CAT/SoCal's
Erick
Vallejo
rounded out the top
10.
