where Team
Honda's
Andrew Short
wanted to be.
But when the Lites West
main event was over
at Anaheim
I,
Short
was
standin8 exactly
where he wanted to
be
- on the top step ofthe
podium.
After
gettinS
to
the final via a win in his
heat race, short
certainly
had his work
cut
out for him when
he
got
a bad
jump
off the start
and was mired in the
middle
of the
pack
as the 22-rider
field rounded
the first turn, But Short
was up
to the
task,
pretty
much
picking
off at
least a
rider
per
lap until
he was in second
place
at the halfway
mark. His
most
profitable
lap came
on the second
go-around,
when
he

four riders in
quick
succes-
sion. The rider,
however, who
gave
Short
the
most
grief
was
newcomer
Ryan
Villopoto, who led from the
get-8o. But
Short eventually
ran
Monster Energy/
Pro CircuiVKawasaki's
Villopoto down.
passed him on
the lOth lap, and rode off
to victory-

quite
the
performance
from
the rider from Colorado.
"l

know lwas in
the lead." Short said.

I was happy when
I finally figured
it out in the end.
I was
iust
trying to
ride consistent-
lt was
good,
and I was
happy
for Honda; we worked
hard
during
the off season."
Luckily for Shon, Grant
Langston,
the other heat-race
winner, and
Nathan Ramsey had
worse starts than
he did. and he didn't
have to
