"Has Cycle News done something different or did my mail carrier wash and wax my copy? Keep it up!" VOICES Rider of the Year Il With all des€rved kudos to Ricky Carmichael aside, lhad a Sreat time explaining to my l4-year-old as to why both indoor photos of Ricky's house showed more booze bottles than the trophies that were being pointed out. Don't get me wrong, Ricky has a right to do whatever. but it does seem a bit odd to show those two photos to every idol-struck kid in the free world. I could see if it was Travis Pastrana's house, but Ricky's? Maybe you or Ricky would care to explain those photosl fim Buck Cincinnoti, OH Ir), this: "Sor, o lot people hwe liquot in thet homes. Sometimes thot liquot is fot thei own consunPtion. though others onry keep liquot ir thei/ homes ao o,?tr to their guests. Since Ricky Cotmichoel hos won 14 Notionol Chompiorships, I think it's sofe to ossume thot he doesnt hove o drinking problem ond thot the mojotity of thot olcohol is for his Euests." Glod we could help with your porcnt- inl problem. lncidentolly, we don't believe thot Ttoris Postrono hos o dtinking prcblem eithel thouSh there ,s olso o good chonce thot he hos o bor in his home... Editot Likes Us For the past couple of yearc I have received a survey card in the mail from Cycle News. I haven't been much help because, frankly, the magazine is perfect for my needs and I could flnd na item better than another. lssue number 50 is different - the photos seem to iump off the page and are more colorful than ever. Has Cycle News done something differ- ent or did my mail carrier wash and wax my copy? Keep it up! PS. How about some smff interviews some day? You are the champs of your class! Fronk Wddehon vio lhe tnlernet Not So Stupid Cycle News is the absolute best motorcycle publication - bar none. My quesrion is regarding the letters to the editor - When did they become so mean-spirited? The Yamaha of Troy's response to Greg Tysor was fine until he called him stuPid. I don't know either person, but I do know that Greg T/sor made a good point and he did not call anybady stupid in doinS so. I also know that Greg Tysor is about 48 years old, and he still has a National num- ber, and he makes main events. To do so in AMA flat track says he knows a bit about racing. I also believe that he was a narion- al rep for Continental Tires, so l'm think- in8 they wouldn't have hired him if he were stupid, Yes, Mitch Payton is a Ereat businessman and great tuner, and he deserved to win. But Kenny Tolbert is also a Ereat business- man and tuner. Maybe his business isn't the same choice as f4itch Payton's, but you don't win numerous championships without an extremely organized and efllcient mind - not to mention putting an extremely fast and good-handling motorcycle on the track time after time- So, guess what - he deserved to win also. Chris Carr is a total champion, but ask him about having Kenny Tolbert and ask him who he think is tuner of the year. Craig Monin vio the ,ntetnet Tattoo Woes Number seven! Are you kidding me? I iust got 259 tattooed on the base of my skull, Mdttio Lubinsv vlo the tntefiet Design Contest I knew there was something more to Ducati's "Design Your Dream Ducati" con- test. lt was bogus, way behind schedule, and nothing more than a vehicle to steal ideas from creative yet undiscovered talent and not credit them. Their new concept bike is a rip-off of a design from the contest (mind you, I viewed every entry). I haven't seen such blatant pla- giarism since Ford based the prwious-gener- ation Mustang (not the new cool one) on the winner of a design contest held in 1989-90. Much like the Ducati €ontest, rhe prize was a Ford product. Domon Moron for Angeler, CA Godspeed, Bill Young Anyone familiar wi(h the Anzona racing scene in the 1970s and '80s knows Young's Cycle Supply and the ear-to-ear grin of Bill Young. Young's was one of the Southwest's largest wholesale suppliers, carrying every- thing the motocrosser needed. All week, Bill worked the phones, the counter. packaged, and shipped. On the weekends, Bill and his family were at the races. He helped more riders than anyone can even count and was the primary spon- sor of almost every Al'4A and NMA race held in the region - and all of the Fleming Memorials. On Christmas Eve, Bill passed away. Heartfelt prayers go out to his wife, Bev; sons Chip and Scott and wife; and daughter, Samantha, and her family. Bill was a man who made a difference in many kids' and their par- ents' lives- Thank you, Bill, and Godspeed. Iooone PrYor vld the loternet CYCLE NEWS .
