The former double World Champion had a torrid Saturday, qualifying a career- worst 22nd and finished 14th, helped by crashes for Alex, Fer- min Aldeguer (Gresini Ducati), Bezzecchi, Martin, Savadori and Franco Morbidelli (VR46 Ducati). SUNDAY MOTOGP Marc Marquez grabbed the holeshot from third on the grid, fending off Alex into turn one as Acosta surged from the second row to third, with Quartararo and Bastianini in pursuit. The fight for fourth went down to the wire, Acosta edg- ing Bastianini and Binder by just 0.075 of a second. Johann Zarco (Castrol LCR Honda) was seventh, ahead of Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol), while rookie Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) scored a hard-earned ninth and the last point on offer. It was a disastrous day for Aprilia Racing, as both Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi were to crash out after tangling with other riders. Test rider Lo - renzo Savadori also crashed out. It was only slightly better for Marc (93) got the jump on Alex (73), but the little brother would snap back at turn one four laps later. VOLUME 62 ISSUE 36 SEPTEMBER 9, 2025 P85 Alex Marquez rues the mistake that cost him Sprint race glory on Saturday as Marc rides off into the distance and to yet another win. 93 MARC MARQUEZ 1ST/2ND MOTOGP "I gave my maximum; I did the perfect race," Marquez said. "In the opening laps I was trying to understand the grip, as I didn't want to destroy the front tire. On lap four I could have overtaken Alex on the straight, but I rolled off the throttle because he was faster and the best strategy was to break away from the rest. In the final laps, I was a bit on the limit—yester- day I almost crashed at turn seven; today I ran wide—but, in any case, I'm happy for Alex, for Ducati and for myself, as on a difficult circuit, I still finished second."
