had a podium today, and with
some guys going out, we were
fourth. We want to be better."
So where was Jett Lawrence?
The talk of the day came at
the start of moto one when the
points leader prematurely hit the
gate and momentarily surged
ahead of the field as the rest of
the gates dropped. After double
and triple clutching to get over
the forward-falling gate, he found
himself well outside the top 20
going into the first turn. Law

rence fought his way back from
23rd
to an eventual third but
was docked an entire lap for the
starting-gate mishap and was
credited with 17th place. This
call obviously shook up the over

all standings, but Jett refocused
I
had a rough first moto, unfortu-
nately, but I had some positives
on
the day with my starts—two
holeshots. So that was cool for
us, and I was able to rebound in
moto two.
"I was in second, and then I
stalled the bike towards the end. I
just hit my rear brake and couldn't
get going again to get back to
second, but I'm glad to hang onto
third and get that podium."
Justin Cooper finished fourth
overall after battling towards the
front in both motos, followed by
Jorge Prado, who matched his
season-best points day with a
fifth in the second moto.
"I kind of felt off all day," Coo

RETURNING RIDERS
After the two-week break, many
riders returned to the starting
line with a clean bill of health.
This included Dylan Ferrandis,
who raced his first round of Pro
Motocross for the year, Pierce
Brown, Daxton Bennick, Tom
Vialle, Julien Beaumer and Shane
McElrath.
JETT'S PENALTY
The reason for Jett Lawrence's
penalty comes from the AMA
rulebook section 1.8.9, C. 1,
which defines start violations and
penalty options. The rule states,
"Jumping or fouling the gate may
result in a penalty of one lap or
disqualification." AMA officials felt
Jett's action met this criterion and
assessed the harsh penalty of a
one-lap penalty.
MOSIMAN, BROWN
INJURED
Monster Energy Star Racing
Yamaha's Michael Mosiman and
Pierce Brown suffered injuries that
led to DNFs at the Ironman. Mosi-
man went down two turns into the
second 250MX moto and called
it a day. After riding from 20th to
12th in the first moto, Mosiman
retreated to the pits after twist-
ing his ankle in his second-moto
crash. "I tweaked my ankle that
was bothering me," he said. "I
did one lap, but I was not myself
out there, and I decided to pull in
and get ready for next weekend."
Brown had a big crash in the first
moto that sidelined him for the
rest of the day. "He will get looked
at this week and will see how it
goes, and, hopefully, see him at
Unadilla," said the team's man-
ager, Wil Hahn.
