450MX It's been a long time coming for Hunter Lawrence. On his 20th attempt, the older Lawrence brother finally earned his first 450MX overall win. Now in his second full-time season aboard the larger 450 machine, Hunter has been a consistent front-run - ner all season long, and Ironman proved no different. In fact, he has never finished outside the top five overall in his 450 career. The number-96 machine started up front in both motos and led a majority of the opening race. He eventually lost the spot to Chase Sexton late in the moto but still secured a strong second place to start the day. His first-moto finish held up even with the penalties that were later im - posed. Lawrence returned in moto two, with more fight still left in the tank. After leading the opening lap, he tipped over and slipped back to fourth. "I thought it was a strong showing overall," he said. "I did not have the best start in moto one, but I fought hard to get fifth. I was proud of that effort; I gave every- thing that I had! I improved my start in moto two and was chasing a podium position, but my body was done. I had to cruise it over the finish line." 98 DREW ADAMS 5TH (8-5) 250MX Rookie Drew Adams posted a career- best fifth overall. "It was my best day so far," said Adams. "Coming back from the injury after High Point, I've been struggling the last couple of weeks. I started to put it together a bit at Washougal, and this week I feel like I executed. In the first moto, I think I was somewhere in the high 30s off the start, which is never good, but I charged all the way back to eighth. In the second moto, I started around the top 10, dropped a few spots early, but then slowly worked my way forward. I felt like I had a little more in the tank than a lot of the guys today; the heat and pace were getting to people, but I kept pushing. RJ Hampshire claimed his first 450MX overall podium in second place.
