Salas, Carter Win Surfercross
F
ox Raceway and San Onofre
Beach in Southern California
hosted the 26th annual Surf-
ercross, a two-day event that
combines motocross and surfing.
This year's Surfercross kicked off
with the motocross race, followed
the next day by the surfing com-
petition. The two-man team with
the best combined score wins.
Several pro motocrossers—in-
cluding Mike Metzger, Tyler Ber-
eman, Jeff Matiasevich, Brandon
Ray and more—took part, as did
several pro surfers. The industry
class also drew out the "desk
jockeys" for their chance at the
annual title.
Brandon Ray and Josh Sleigh
won the Pro motocross class.
The MX race is a relay-style
event, which involves partners
handing off a wristband at the
completion of each lap. Ko
-
diak Lehman and Skyler Van
der Launitz took second, with
Brian Medeiros and Micah Davis
rounding out the moto podium.
The surf competition went
to Gabriel Jairala and Jacob
Szekely as the duo used their
skills to take the win on day
two. Fletcher Jackson and Kale
Cadam finished second, while
Wyatt Fontenot and Finn McGill
claimed third.
After combining the scores
across two days of competition,
it was Baja specialist Arturo
Salas and his teammate John
Carter who emerged with the
overall win (10th in moto and fifth
in surf). Colton Udall and Tanner
Waite earned second overall (14-
6), with Ford Heit and Ryan Sakal
taking third overall (13-7).
In the industry division, Lucas
Webb and Rafael Loera topped
the podium (3-6) ahead of Mike
Diorio and Damien Bell (8-5)
and Nicky Reimer and Jonathan
Murphy (5-9).
