Fong dominated Saturday's race one at VIR, leading all 20 laps under persistent pressure from Beaubier. Beaubier passed Herrin on lap three and set the fastest lap of 1:24.287 as he chased after Fong but faded late due to grip issues, finishing 7.3 seconds back at the flag. Herrin finished third despite intense final-lap pressure from Kelly and Jake Gagne (At - tack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing). Kelly bumped Herrin twice on the last lap but came up just short—0.144 of a second behind at the line. Gagne dropped off the fight and finished five seconds adrift. JD Beach impressed again on his Stock 1000-spec Real Steel Honda, finishing sixth overall and winning the Superbike Cup for Stock 1000 machines. Ashton Yates took seventh for Jones Honda, narrowly beat - 40 SEAN DYLAN KELLY 4TH/2ND SUPERBIKE "It was insanely important [to finish on the podium]," Kelly said after race two. "I think it's been coming since the first race weekend. If you look at Atlanta, I finished fourth a few tenths from the podium. It took six race weekends, or I don't know how many we're at now, and a lot of close mo- ments, a lot of good battles, a lot of good speed, but it just wasn't going. A lot of frustrating moments. Prob- ably the most I've ever had in racing. I always managed to keep my head down and keep focused." MYOWNRACE 95 JD BEACH 1ST/1ST STOCK 1000 "I wasn't being patient," Beach said. "I wanted to make that move sooner be- fore that, but I just kept fighting, kept fighting. I didn't want to wait until the last lap to do something, but I thought I had a pretty good move there. I tried the lap before and about highsided. I was going all in. I got to thank my whole [team and] American Honda." (Below) The battle for second in race two was all- consuming and resembled a Talent Cup race at times as Sean Dylan Kelly (40), Jake Gagne (32), Richie Escalante (54), Cameron Beaubier (6) and Hayden Gillim (69) all went at it.
